Description
Authority of Police Officers
- The officer in charge of a police station may investigate any cognizable case within the jurisdiction of the local Court, without requiring prior approval from a Magistrate, as per the provisions of Chapter XIII.
Validity of Investigation
- No proceedings initiated by a police officer in such cases shall be challenged at any stage on the ground of lack of authority to investigate under this section.
Magistrate’s Power to Order Investigation
- A Magistrate empowered under Section 190 may also direct an investigation into a cognizable offence, as outlined above.
