CrPC Section-166A - Letter of request to competent authority for investigation in a country or place outside India

Description

Notwithstanding anything contained in this Code, if, during an investigation into an offence, the investigating officer or any superior officer applies for evidence located outside India, any Criminal Court may issue a Letter of Request to a competent Court or authority in that country.

The request may seek:

  1. Examination of any person acquainted with the facts of the case and recording of their statement.
  2. Production of any document or item relevant to the investigation.
  3. Forwarding of collected evidence or authenticated copies to the issuing Court.

The transmission of the Letter of Request shall follow the procedure specified by the Central Government.

Any statement, document, or object received under this section shall be considered evidence collected during the investigation under this Chapter.
