Description

1. Authority to Summon Witnesses

   • A police officer conducting an investigation under Section 174 may issue a written order summoning:
     • At least two local residents as required for the investigation.
     • Any other person who appears to have knowledge of the case.

2. Obligation of Summoned Persons

   • Every person summoned under this section must:
     • Attend as required.
     • Answer all questions truthfully, except those that may incriminate them or lead to forfeiture of their property.

3. When Court Attendance is Not Required

   • If the investigation does not reveal a cognizable offence that falls under Section 170, the summoned persons shall not be required to appear before a Magistrate's Court.
