Description
Subject to the provisions of this Chapter, the following Magistrates may take cognizance of any offence:
- Any Magistrate of the first class
- Any Magistrate of the second class, if specially empowered under Sub-Section (2)
They may take cognizance in the following ways:
- Upon receiving a complaint of facts that constitute the offence
- Upon a police report of such facts
- Upon information received from any person other than a police officer
- Upon their own knowledge that such offence has been committed
