CrPC Section-229 - Conviction on plea of guilty

Description

  • Record the Plea – The judge must ensure that the plea of guilt is made voluntarily and with a full understanding of its consequences.
  • Exercise Discretion – The judge may convict the accused immediately based on the plea but is not bound to do so.
  • Sentencing – If convicted, the judge will proceed with sentencing as per the law. However, in some cases, the judge might still call for evidence before passing a sentence, especially for serious offences.
