Description
This Chapter shall apply to an accused against whom:
- A police report under Section 173 alleges the commission of an offence other than one punishable with death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment exceeding seven years.
- A Magistrate has taken cognizance of an offence based on a complaint, other than an offence punishable with death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment exceeding seven years, and after examining the complainant and witnesses under Section 200, has issued process under Section 204.
Exceptions: This Chapter shall not apply if the offence:
- Affects the socio-economic condition of the country.
- Is committed against a woman.
- Is committed against a child below the age of 14 years.
Determination of Socio-Economic Offences:
- The Central Government, by notification, shall specify the offences under the law that affect the socio-economic condition of the country.
