Independent Power of the Court under Section 284

• Even though prisoners can be brought to court under Sections 267-269, the court can still opt for recording their evidence through a commission instead of physically producing them.

Application of Chapter XXIII (Part B)

• The rules for examining a witness on commission (when a person cannot be brought to court) apply equally to prisoners.
• This means that a Magistrate or appointed commissioner can visit the prison and record the prisoner’s testimony.
