The period of limitation, in relation to an offence, shall commence on the following dates:

• (a) On the date the offence was committed; or
• (b) If the commission of the offence was not known to the person aggrieved or to any police officer, the first day on which the offence comes to the knowledge of the aggrieved person or to any police officer, whichever is earlier; or
• (c) If the identity of the offender is unknown, the first day on which the identity of the offender becomes known to the aggrieved person or to the police officer investigating the offence, whichever is earlier.

In computing the period of limitation, the day from which the period is to be calculated shall be excluded.
